Cook’s Illustrated should stay away from coffee advice, and I suggest you look to better sources for your coffee research.

coffeegeek is an obvious one, and there’s coffeeresearch.org for example. Do some reading. There’s enough bad coffee in the world.

But…the amount of electricity used is what I’m going for since I’m looking for an exact amount (I don’t want to over or under fill the mug). For tea or the like, it’s always the kettle.

Ok, now I am going to point out something here that would make your coffee even better. I approved of the process up to one point…

Microwaved water?!? Ew! Am I seriously the only one who notices a BIG difference between kettle and microwave water? Granted, it’s worse when you make tea, but I guarantee your coffee would improve by using the kettle. :)

i love cook’s illustrated but it is over the top geekish sometimes and it could use with a little injection of soul from time to time!
