Coffee Machine Review: Home Café from Black & Decker
Related entries in Coffee MachinesI tried the Folgers coffee served in the Home Café from Black & Decker while at Eat! Vancouver 2005. Sigh. I did not enjoy this one.
The machine features a pod system – water is forced through the pods at high pressure to create the coffee. The tagline for the system is “The One Cup Coffeehouse.”
If this were a coffeehouse cup of coffee, I would not return to the cafe. It was watery and completely lacked flavour (although who would want to drink Folgers anyway). So yes, bad. Very bad.
I’ve not read much about the pod system, but can’t imagine why it would make a good cup of coffee. There is a sheath of material between the water and the coffee – wouldn’t the material impede the oils from coming out?

We bought the Black & Decker Home Cafe machine for home – only fits the Nescafe pods. Terrible!!
We are throwing the machine and the pods in the garbage and will be buying another Melita one-cup system and Melita pods. Marginally more expensive for the pods, but definitely worth it!
We used to have the Melita machine, but wore it out after 1.5 years of daily use.

I recived the home cafe system for christmas 2004 and after a year I could not get the pods anymore. So I had to go back to my old coffee pot and waste a lot of coffee. The home cafe system had worked because my husband and I get up at different times in the day and we could both have fresh coffee.

It’s funny how we adopt words and adapt our lexicon to the times. This is a very useful slant on things.
