Using the machine before commenting on it might give your review a little more cred. I purchased the machine based on a number of very positive reviews, and I have to say, my experience matches the positive write-ups out there.
You DO get very good crema on your shots with this machine and there’s a wide variety of blends to choose from.
Yes it is sold by Nestlé. No, you don’t have to “subscribe” to a coffee club. Set aside your snobbish posturing and try a cup.

My company has had a Nespresso machine for around two years now. All the staff loved the coffee but recently there were complaints about the Aluminum capsules health effect. There is a small amount of paint from the capsule which comes off and there must be fractions of metal breaking off when the capsule is punctured and high pressure imposed. I was not satisfied at all with the response when I posed this to Nespresso:
Background
Aluminium is a naturally occurring element. It is the most abundant metallic element found in the earths crust (8%) and naturally present in the food we consume. Plants naturally absorb aluminium and some plant food sources, such as tea, are inherently rich in aluminium
Use of aluminium
Aluminium metal is wide-spread used for processing equipment and packaging of foods (can, tubes) as it provides one of the most efficient barriers to protect food against light, moisture and air.
Possible sources of aluminium in a Nespresso cup of coffee
Roasted and ground coffee:
Like other plants, the coffee tree absorbs a small quantity of aluminium from the soil. The intake of minerals enables plants to avoid self-phytoxicity. This naturally occurring aluminium is found in coffee beans (0.73 – 52mg/kg) and hence in roasted & ground coffee, ie.: measured average content is around 8 mg/kg. A capsule of Nespresso contains 5 or 6 grams of coffee and about 0.035 and 0.042 mg of aluminium respectively.
Our blends of coffee are 100% pure and do not contain any additives that night contribute to aluminium content.
Alumimun capsule (body and lid/membrane)
Aluminium packaging ensures the coffee freshness, and the preservation of all aromas for the best in-cup quality through an excellent barrier to moisture and air. Moreover aluminium can be recycled. The aluminium body and membrane are coated with a layer of food grade lacquer, avoiding migration of aluminium in the roasted & ground coffee contained in the capsules

This may accidentally happen during the coffee extraction with water under pressure. The metallic form of aluminium is not absorbed by the human body.
Water
Water can contain aluminium at a maximum level of 0.2 mg/l. The amount of aluminium due to water can theoretically range from 0.008 mg per cup of 40 ml to 0.022 per cup of 110 ml
Daily Intake of aluminium
The daily intake from food and beverages, as main contributors, is estimated to an average value of 8 mg/day (Food Safety Brief – July 2006). The contribution from drinking water is usually less than 5% of the total daily intake. Migration from processing equipment, packaging and cookware is low and therefore has only a modest contribution to the daily intake.
Contribution of Nespresso cup to the daily intake of aluminium
The consumption of Nespresso cups (0.005 mg per cup) has a totally negligible contribution to the normal daily intake of aluminium (average of 8 mg), ie: one cup of Nespresso represents about 0.06% of the daily intake of aluminium.
This value can be compared to the daily consumption of the following food and beverages:
125g of bread = 0.55mg of aluminium (100 cups of Nespresso*) and 330 ml of fruit juices = 0.13 mg of aluminium (25 cups of Nespresso*)
* Considering there is a low aluminium content in the water

Hello:
I too am not happy with your lack of health info. Aluminum is not meant to be put into the human body. Is not Natural. There too much info linking aluminum to alzheimers to be ignored.
If you are selling a coffee maker and forcing people to buy your coffee, you have a responsibility to see that it is not toxic. To not do this, leaves you open to law suits including negligence.
Please take our health and yours seriously and fix this mistake before it becomes a problem for you.

I purchased one of these machines after having coffee made on it at the Fat Duck restaurant in the UK (world’s best restaurant). Great crema, nice and hot, and really fast – I made 26 shots for a dinner party in less than 5 minutes. The coffee is not bad and there is a variety available. I’d recommend the machine. It’s now in every room of the Shangri La hotel chain – which says alot!

26 shots in less than 5 minutes – that 11 seconds a shot – an espesso needs to be in the 25 seconds range. 11 seconds is crap coffee. totally under-extracted.

you need to call a technician right away to get your problem fixed
An ideal shot of espresso should take between 20 and 30 seconds to arrive on a professional-grade machine, timed from when the coffee begins to flow from the machine (unless the machine has a “preinfusion” stage, which may add about 7 seconds to the process). Varying the fineness of the grind, the amount of pressure used to tamp the grinds, or the pump pressure itself can be used to bring the extraction time into this ideal zone. Most prefer to pull espresso shots directly into a pre-heated demitasse or shot glass, to maintain the ideal temperature of the espresso and preserve all of its crema.

First off – for Jo the “Naturopath” – it’s not raw aluminum. You know the issues concerning ingestion of aluminum concerns raw, unsealed aluminum? This is manufacturing-grade aluminum, not consumer material where it’s been sealed or anodized. The Nespresso capsules are coated and then have a thin seal of mineral oil – you’re never ingesting *any* aluminum.
Plus, it only takes 5% of the manufacturing energy to recycle aluminum – it’s really the best distribution method available.
Lastly – I dumped my Jura (second rebuild in 5 years!) for a Nespresso Citiz with Milk and I’m very, very satisfied. What I’ll save over buying another expensive machine (and keeping it running) versus the offset for the capsules? I’ll be saving money for years to come.
Opinion isn’t enough – Do the math. Do the science.

My wife and I visited our daughter in Portugal and had several cups from her Nespresso machine. We’re not exactly connoisseurs, but we thought the coffee was great, especially for the cost and compared to the expensive coffee shops. I would buy one, in spite of the aluminum exposure and the risk of alzheimers. I would buy one, in spite of the aluminum exposure and the risk of alzheimers.

Haha – Duane, that was classic! I love my Nespresso, speed, convenience, taste. There may be better coffee out there for the true connoisseur, but this is fine for me. Regarding health, well, I say, as with anything, too much of a good thing is always bad. I try to restrict my nespresso intake to 1 or 2 a day, for health, and financial reasons! Not always easy, a quick espresso is such a nice little luxury, it can get very addictive! I too wondered about the alzhiemers aspect, nothing is certain in this life, but HollandJim’s comment is comforting. Aluminium and Alzhiemers link is so well known, I kinda doubt Nestle would have invented a machine that pumps super-heated metal into your brain. Then again they are the most evil company in the world, or so we are told. All shades of grey, just like my memory… hello? Where am I?

I’m dissapointed. I placed my order on Tuesday February 22nd/11 at around noon. The website says orders placed before 4:00 p.m. will ship out the same business day. Website says order will arrive in 2 business days.
It’s Thursday February 24th/11… and I just found out my order will not arrive today.
First of all, the order was not shipped out on the 22nd. It was shipped out on the 23rd (one day later)… and not only that… it was picked up at 18:29, way beyond the cut-off time to make for delivery.
So now, here I am, with no coffee for tonight and tomorrow morning!!! That is not acceptable!!
I called Customer Service…. and they tell me they will refund the shipping charges!!! ($6.95)… for my pain and suffering???
I don’t want the $6.95… I WANT MY COFFEE !!!!
All my orders before used to be shipped through UPS and we never had any problem… and now they chose Canada Post!!!… Are you kidding me????
Then again…. why is it we can’t buy the capsules somewhere else???
I live in Ottawa. There is no Boutique in Ottawa.
I got my machine as a gift.
Knowing now what I know, I will not recommend this product to anybody. The product is good… very good… but having to be ordering the coffee and being at the mercy of shippers is not good.
So there… I took it off my chest… for whatever is worth.
And I will post this in any other blog dealing with the same subject. The world has to know…

For all of those aluminum concerns and the ordering coffee concerns, you can buy re-usable pods and put your on coffee in them vary quickly. The have a filter system so no aluminum and they prove to be much less then 66cents or so that the nespresso pods are. I have yet to try the re-usable ones, but I love my machine and it makes great coffee quickly. The other thing is coffee takes 20-30 seconds for an espresso – the conventional way and thats bs. If it tastes great (which it does) then thats how long it takes. I worked at starbucks for years so I know the theory and the requirement that they put on for the time but the nespresso makes unreal coffee and once you have had a few you will be addicted. So quick So good – just the capsules are bloody expensive.
PS – you can’t review a product without trying it.. especially something like this. Its to easy to hate, or not believe that the coffee is good from an instant-esc machine.

We LOVE our Nespresso and accompanying frother (both 3 years old – Nespresso replaced our first frother without question when it had problems.
We find guests who drink and LOVE Tim Horton’s coffee like Nespresso coffee as long as we serve a lighter large coffee. (They are not Espresso drinkers.)
We have had no issues with coffee delivery, although we have never run out before re-ordering – it may not seem as fast when pacing for your morning coffee!

Pay close attention, for those developing Alzheimer’s, I will make this simple; Coffee is acidic, aluminum is highly reactive to acid. The food grade coating on the capsule does not and can not outlast the exposure to the acid, therefore, the acid from the coffee is reaching the aluminum. Do you wonder why the military no longer uses aluminum canteens? Don’t make yourself look stupid by guessing; it is because of aluminum bleed off into the contents of the canteen. Years ago, aluminum containers had warnings against fruit juice, as fruit juice is acidic. If you think drinking an acidic beverage from aluminum extracted by heat is okay, then do the planetary intelligence quotient a favor and double, triple or quadruple your intake.
