So-called ‘cream of Vancouver coffee shops’
Related entries in Coffee Reviews on the RoadThe Vancouver Sun just came out with a list of the so-called ‘cream of Vancouver coffee shops‘.
The criteria seems to be: independently owned, has coffee. The title of the article seems to imply that you will get the ‘creme de la creme’ of coffee shops, but in reality it’s just a listing. Each listing talks about atmosphere, for the most part.
I had a quick glance through their list of 10 ‘top’ coffee shops and spotted a few I would never dream of having a good cup of coffee.
Perhaps the article should be renamed ‘good Vancouver hangouts’ instead.

Agreed! I do appreciate the article, as it gives nice little descriptions of places I haven’t yet visited, but what’s with excluding Prado from their picks for Commercial Drive coffee houses? Crazy!

I agree about Prado – if anything it’s the perfect place to sit and have a good coffee in the winter and watch the rain pouring down from within those big windows.
I’m glad they had Calabria though…
Regards!

Hi Arieanna,
Found this blog after I heard you speak at BlogHer and enjoyed your session. I’m also from Vancouver so thought it would be neat to check out your blogs, and I’m a coffee addict too so this is the place for me.
I hadn’t heard of too many of the spots mentioned in the article but I was pleased to see Delany’s and Honey’s Doughnuts on the list. My family practically keeps Delany’s in Edgemont Village in business.

No Caffe Artigiano, Elysian Room or JJ Bean (excluding the Commercial Drive location)? Having multiple locations does not a soulless coffee house make.
At the time of this article’s publication, Caffe Artigiano would have had three 1st place Cup of Excellence winners on their menu and each could be prepared cup by cup for maximum freshess. I guess you can’t blame Yvonne Zacharias for not having ever been exposed to the true coffee culture that exists in Vancouver though.

Funny how they list Delanys but no listing of JJ Bean, which is who Delanys buys their coffee from. Not much work went into this article.
